Class Assignment

Class assignment, or labelling of individual mass spectra is a procedure in which selected spectra are grouped by an operator. The class assignment procedure can be a prerequisite for the following functions of the MicrobeMS program:

• Averaging mass spectra
• Create database spectra from individual microbial mass spectra
• Peak frequency tests
• Two-samples t-tests
• Wilcoxon rank-sum tests

To perform class assignment select first the respective mass spectra in the listbox at the top left corner (the listbox is labeled by MicrobeMS spectra ID`s). Choose then class assignment → set to class X from the Edit pulldown menu (X denotes the class number, MicrobeMS allows to define up to four different classes of spectra). To delete class assignments of selected spectra choose class assignment --> delete class assignments from the Edit pulldown menu. Class assignments may be viewed by the function display spectral metadata which is available from the View pulldown menu (see option incl class ass).
